New skid on the block

Bobcat has launched its new S70 skid-steer loader, the smallest model in the Bobcat loader range. Replacing the 463 model, the new S70 combines all the advantages of a truly compact loader with new features and improvements offering significantly enhanced performance and durability.

With a width of 901 mm, a height of 1814 mm, an overall length with standard bucket of 2553 mm and an operating weight of only 1291 kg, the new S70 skid-steer loader ticks all the boxes for compactness, transportability and manoeuvrability.

With its small dimensions, the S70 model can access sites with narrow openings such as gates, alleys or aisles. The S70 is ideal for work in tight areas where larger machines cannot manoeuvre effectively. It provides a versatile and compact solution for rental fleets, demolition, construction, landscaping, farming and general material-handling applications.

The S70 is driven by the 16.8 kW Kubota D1005-E3B-BC-3 diesel engine, a Tier IV system that runs cleaner with 50% lower particulate emissions. The power output from the engine together with the 1291 kg operating weight results in a higher power to weight ratio compared to other machines on the market. The S70 also offers higher productivity through a 10% improvement in cycle times owing to faster bucket roll back and bucket dump functions.

An enhanced lift arm design offers increased strength, one of a number of new features for optimised durability.

The S70 has a new belt drive with automatic tensioner which features more robust components and a simpler design that uses technology from larger Bobcat loaders. A micro, serpentine-style V-belt is used in the new belt tensioner system. This belt is more durable and decreases maintenance time.

The S70 also has a new hydrostatic pump controls centring system which uses a tension spring instead of a torsion spring. This new system reduces maintenance and increases uptime.

A new engine mount system on the S70 results in less vibration for increased operator comfort, one of many features in the new Bobcat S70 model designed with the operator in mind. These include the operator’s cab which has both falling object protection and rollover protection. Inside the cab, the operator has a seat belt and a seat bar that doubles as both a secondary restraint and a convenient armrest.

Additional safety features include Bobcat’s patented Interlock Control System, which prevents operation of the machine’s lift and tilt hydraulic functions and the traction drive system if the operator is not in the seat with the seat bar down and the engine running. Another safety feature in the form of an auxiliary interlock valve blocks hydraulic flow to the auxiliary lines if the seat bar is not down.

The transverse mounted engine and swing open tailgate offer ease of maintenance and easy access to standard service points. All routine maintenance components such as the oil dipstick, fuel filters, battery and coolant fill are conveniently located just inside the tailgate. The tip-up operator cab provides complete access to hydraulic and hydrostatic components for servicing. This is an easy process achieved simply by removing two nuts from the front of the loader and opening the tailgate to allow the cab to lift freely.

With a hydraulic flow of 33.7 l/min at 91% efficiency, the new S70 offers excellent versatility through the ability to work with an extensive range of Bobcat attachments. The quick-change Bob-Tach frame ensures that attachments can be fitted securely and safely in seconds to the S70. It can be combined with a choice of over 20 Bobcat attachments including the breaker, the dumper, dozer blade, scraper, sweeper, trencher, auger and backhoe.
