DEVON’S DIGGER MAN

Jerome Cardwell who runs a ‘Mini-digger and Driver Hire’ business in Totnes, Devon, has bought the first Hanix H17D mini-excavator delivered in the UK. The H17D, supplied by Machine Serve, the regional Hanix dealer based in Coldridge, near Crediton, is the latest addition to Hanix’s new generation D-Series, and replaces the popular H15B Plus-2.
The scope of work undertaken by Jerome (pictured) includes all types of groundworks, landscaping, drainage, hedge removal, pond excavation etc. Occasionally he has to carry out work in restricted areas within barns, or close to outbuildings, and with a motto of ‘difficult jobs a pleasure’ he is always up for a challenge.
“This is my third Hanix machine and I wouldn’t choose anything else”, says Jerome.
“I previously operated a Hanix H15B Plus-2 for four years and it performed reliably throughout. But, the new H17D is sensational – it has incredible digging power and exceptionally smooth and responsive hydraulics. It’s very well balanced, even with a heaped bucket, and the offset is much calmer and more controllable than my old digger. With a longer reach it is much better at grading as well as providing an increased digging depth and dump height. Moving the two-speed tracking control from a foot switch to the dozer lever is also a big improvement. In fact, the sheer number of changes and improvements adds up to a far superior excavator. And, the icing on the cake is that I received a full 5-year warranty on the machine.”
The H17D is a conventional tail swing mini-excavator in a compact package. It is the extendible track version of the newly launched H16D, and comes with a long dipper arm as standard. With a compact width of just 990mm, both of these machines can be transported on a standard trailer and are readily manoeuvrable on-site. With expanding tracks and dozer blade extending to 1,300mm wide, the H17D is exceptionally stable on all terrains, and boasts an impressive dig depth of 2495mm, with dumping height of 2435mm. A powerful, reliable, 11.4kW Kubota diesel engine combines with variable output piston pumps, maximising machine power to match the workload.
Like all Hanix minis sold in the UK and Ireland, the H17D has Datatag anti-theft protection fitted as standard, and is registered with the Construction Equipment Security and Registration Scheme, CESAR.
