Tree OClock

Staff from the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) together with members of Theale Parish Council took part in the BBC’s Tree O’Clock event which took place on 5th December.
Over forty trees were planted at Theale recreation ground between 11 and 12 counting towards the events record breaking attempt for planting the most trees in an hour.
The HTA, the trade association for the garden industry, has been working with the BBC in promoting the event to garden centres across the country. Over 1,000 garden centres signed up to the project and distributed trees, provided by the BBC, to members of the public so that they too could take part in the record breaking attempt helping to raise awareness about the importance of trees in our environment.
Jennifer Thwaites, HTA Promotions Manager, said, “After helping the BBC to deliver this project it was great to join in with members of Theale Parish Council and plant some trees locally. Trees play such an important role in absorbing carbon dioxide, increasing biodiversity and providing people with a better quality of life.”
