MM50 seeds success for Turf Doctor Specialists
Grounds professional Adam Rowlands commands more than 30 years’ hands-on experience in turf, as sole practitioner and, for more than a decade, Turf Doctor Specialists Ltd owner.
In maintaining and renovating natural turf, the company works on football and rugby pitches, bowls rinks, tennis courts and critically, cricket.
He started sowing MM50 seed four years ago after switching from another brand and it was while working with Agrovista Amenity that the company recommended the switch.
“I gave it a go,” says Adam, “and found it a much more robust, hard-wearing option compared to the bent and fescues I’d used.”
Performance under pressure
Turf Doctor now uses the seed across six cricket squares and two bowling greens at renovation time from early September to mid-October, Adam also applying it to six grass tennis courts, where durability and rapid recovery are equally important.
Performance under pressure distinguished the mixture, he says. “Cricket squares face intense wear and tear during the season, and MM50’s dense, fine-leaved ryegrass blend stands up to the challenge.
“The colour is good, germination reliable and recovery solid,” he explains. “It handles the demands of a busy cricket season really well – perfect seed for cricket.”
Tailored for end-of-season renovations and mid-season repairs on cricket squares, MM50 blends Chloe, Alison, Singapore and Etienna perennial ryegrass cultivars to offer strong shoot density, tolerance to close mowing and fast recovery, key when pitches are used through the season.
The mixture is also treated with Headstart Gold seaweed-based seed treatment which helps rapid, even germination.
