Almost two thousand visitors attended The ARB Show this year, making the most of the opportunity to explore over 70 trade stands promoting services and selling an extensive choice of products for arborists and those working in the arboricultural sector. New products appearing at the event included a new access platform from Cumberland Industries, new climbing ropes from UK distributer Fletcher Stewart and from ForestandArb.com, and new pruning saws from Sorbus International. Main event sponsor STIHL also launched its new STIHL X-Fit PPE range at the show, and the clothing was worn by the STIHL-sponsored Canopy Access team who held a series of demonstrations giving insights into the specialist combination of techniques used when working in some of the tree world’s most challenging environments.
More demonstrations, workshops and practical sessions around the showground included a series of demonstrations by Kingswood Training on the safe matching and use of rigging systems sponsored by Fletcher Stewart; and the Tree Climbers’ Forum were busy as ever guiding visitors on a whole range of practical and kit-related issues. The construction site was also a popular attraction, with Abbey Pynford presenting their Housedeck foundation system and Geosynthetics demonstrating Cellweb, their Geocellular tree root protection system.
The Contractors’ Workshop also laid on a programme of more formal presentations, where visitors could hear about the process involved in the development of arb industry products, about the correct use of an air spade in root care management and about best practice when working at height.
A highlight of this year’s show was the 3ATC climbing competition, which attracted a busy line-up of climbers, including a number of first-time competitors in the Novice category. Sponsored by Arbjobs.com, the 3ATC (Arboricultural Association Arborist Tree Challenge), welcomed a record thirty five entries across the four categories, and congratulations go to all who took part.

“Aspen alkylate petrol is more or less free from lead, benzene, aromatic hydrocarbons, olifines and sulphur. Petrol fumes and emissions from Aspen alkylate petrol are significantly less dangerous to your health than emissions from normal petrol. The air is cleaner and health risks are minimised when Aspen alkylate petrol is used to power your engines plus they are easier to start after winter or summer storage.” Andrew Johnstone communication manager told The Landscaper. “ Its better for the environment and better for the engine . This was a good show for us, the product has been on the market for over ten years now and events like this do a great deal to help us spread the word

Chris Sheppard sales manager told The Landscaper, “This is a good show for meeting new contacts and saying hello to existing customers. We were pleased with the response to our Fast Tow Forwarding trailer. It uses a rocking beam type axle with one central pivot point for the axle. This means the trailer hitch can move through a much larger arc that is not predetermined by the size of wheels and trailer bed height. It also means the trailer hitch automatically matches the height of the hitch on the towing vehicle”.
