The Kent-based, family-run building contractor, R Durtnell & Sons Limited, the oldest construction business in the UK, has bought the company’s first excavator, a new Bobcat E25 model, from Bobcat of London, the Authorised Bobcat dealer for South East England.
One of the stars of the BBC programme, Hidden Histories: Britain’s Oldest Family Businesses, Durtnell traces its roots back to the reign of Elizabeth I, whilst the family is even older with a heritage dating from the Norman conquest.
Durtnell works throughout London and the South East operating from the Head Office in Brasted, near Sevenoaks in Kent, and from a regional office in Farnborough, Hampshire. All types of private and publicly funded building contracts are undertaken, traditional or design and build.
In addition to new build, the company is also adept at the specialist restoration and renovation of historic buildings. Customers include private clients, public companies, local authorities, heritage organisations, hospitals, churches, schools and universities.
As soon as it was delivered, the E25 compact excavator was used by Durtnell for groundworks on a new plant yard purchased by the company near Tonbridge in Kent, digging trenches for new piping and drainage systems. For builders and groundworks in Surrey, click here.
Equipped with cab and standard bucket, the E25 model has an operating weight of 2571 kg and combines this with optimised stability and weight distribution. The E25 excavator is part of the new generation E Series range from Bobcat, offering the same advantages, namely superior hydraulic performance, smooth and precise workgroup operation, exceptional operator comfort and high reliability.
Owing to the installation of a new main control valve and optimised pump and higher working pressure, the hydraulic system allows smooth, quick and simultaneous operations together with powerful digging forces. The maximum digging depth of the E25 model is 2582 mm, with a maximum reach at ground level of 4553 mm and a maximum dump height of 3057 mm.
