Wildlife reflecting pond

Phase one of the regeneration of Rathbone Market has been completed by the developers English Cities Fund in partnership with the London Borough of Newham. Throughout the re-development the market will continue to trade for the benefit of shoppers and traders. Phase one is now complete and incorporates 271 new homes, shops and cafes.
Part of the development is a large roof top pond designed to capture rainwater from the surrounding roofs. Firestone Pondgard was the membrane of choice due to it’s flexibility and ease of installment. The pond had a standing depth of 450mm but had to be able to attenuate to a depth of over 650mm.
The PondGard installers faced several challenges, the main one being that all materials for all works need to be lifted on to the roof by crane and for the majority of the project the crane was situated in the middle of the pond. Each side of the pond was lined and completed and subsequently joined together once the crane had been removed.
The reflecting pond was installed by Firestone PondGard contractor Kingcombe Aquacare based in Somerset.
