Q Lawns turf growers are pleased that Niki Williamson, Fenland Farmland Bird Advisor, has kindly agreed to lead the farm tour at their free Sustainable Landscaping Event on 4th July 2013.
Through the Fenland Farmland Bird Recovery Project, Farmers are encouraged to adopt nature-friendly farming practices as part of a commercial farm business, benefiting a host of farmland species – including rare arable plants, water voles and bumblebees as well as declining farmland birds – while continuing to produce the high arable yields associated with the area.
Niki, a keen gardener with a background in ecology, has been working with the farm management team at Q Lawns for two years to help further improve the quantity and quality of the wildlife habitat on the 1000 Ha farm.
In these times of environmental awareness, landscape professionals need to know that the materials used in creating beautiful gardens are ethically sourced. At Q Lawns Sustainable Landscaping Event, Niki will be leading a farm tour, pointing out the ways in which hedgerows, waterways, woodland and trackways have become invaluable wildlife habitat that is helping to create a healthier balance between conservation and crop production.
Other speakers at the event, which is free to attend, include Wayne Grills from BALI who will be talking about the skills shortage in the industry; and Tom Hart-Dyke on his thoughts and experiences on conservation through cultivation.
