Play facilities in Lincoln are set to be under go a 21st Century transformation.
Following Full Council approval on 30th June, the City of Lincoln Council will place an order for state of the art outdoor play equipment worth around £100,000. The equipment will be used to extend the existing play areas at The Lawn and Sudbrooke Drive in Ermine East.
In addition plans to create a new play area at King George’s Field in Glebe will be put before Council for approval in August. If approved this will be a further investment of £60,000.
Plans for The Lawn include the latest technology in play facilities called ‘iplay’. Iplay stands for intelligent play and encourages children to lunge, bend, twist, reach and run. This new facility will be among only handful of iplay areas in the whole of the UK.
Iplay is designed to encourage children to exercise while having fun and it has been proven to tackle factors relating to childhood obesity. In an average game children run approximately 185 metres and in five minutes burn more calories than they would burn when playing tennis or swimming.
