High Brown Fritillary

Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah has asked for the HTA’s advice to make the garden at Number 10 more wildlife friendly and help to save endangered butterfly species at this week’s All-Party Parliamentary Gardening & Horticulture Group trip to No. 10 Downing Street.

In discussion with Tim Briercliffe, HTA Director of Business Development, Mrs Brown requested the HTA’s PlantforLife guide to making your garden flutter. The simple guide provides information about the four most at risk butterflies and step by step information to show people how and what to plant to help preserve these elegant creatures. More than three quarters of Britain’s butterfly species have declined in the past 20 years and four species; the High Brown Fritillary, Pearl Bordered Fritillary, Wood White and the Duke of Burgundy are heading for extinction.

HTA Promotions Manager Jennifer Thwaites said “We are delighted that Mrs Brown is leading the way to help save four of Britain’s butterfly species, using the PlantforLife Making your Garden Flutter Guide to plant butterfly-friendly flowers and shrubs in the 10 Downing Street garden.”
