Green Flag…Fairlands Valley Park .. Howard Burrell

The Green Flag was raised at the sailing centre at Fairlands Valley Park by Stevenage Mayor, Cllr Michael Downing, who was joined by many of the staff whose work has contributed to this accolade.

Fairlands Valley Park has once again been named one of the best green spaces in the country and awarded a prestigious Green Flag. The accolade recognises the importance of Fairlands within Stevenage, its excellent facilities, well managed green space and amenities.
Green Flag Awards are the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales. Flags are awarded annually to a variety of green spaces that are welcoming, healthy, safe, and secure, clean and well maintained, and sustainable, among other criteria.
Cllr Howard Burrell, Executive Member for Children and Young People, Culture, Sport and Leisure, said, “We’re extremely pleased that Fairlands Valley Park has once again been awarded a Green Flag. This award recognises the commitment of everyone who has contributed to making Fairlands such a popular and well-kept green space.
“Over the past year we’ve seen the culmination of some important projects, including the re-opening of the Main Lake, and the park has hosted events including the recent Springwatch Wild Day Out. The Green Flag Award is official recognition of the importance and success of Fairlands Valley Park.”
