A new children’s play area was at the heart of Rossendale Borough Council’s plans to improve Rawtenstall’s Whitaker Park and win a Green Flag Award.
And following consultations with local school children and the Whitaker Park Action Group, a proposal for new play facilities was put forward.
“The old play equipment was set in grass and was outdated,” explains Tamzin Perceval, the council’s assistant operations manager. “In the past we have used wetpour rubber as a surface for our play areas, but because the design the children chose included a sandpit, we needed a surface which wouldn’t turn into an ice rink when sand gets onto it.
“We also needed to meet all current safety standards, and we wanted a product which would more or less look after itself. That’s why Notts Sport’s ChildsPlay was selected.”
