Helping hand

The Horticultural Trades Association is to freeze its membership subscription rates for 2009 in recognition of the challenges that lie ahead for the industry in this coming year.

At its Annual General Meeting, which took place at Melbicks Garden Centre it was recognised that many businesses will be under pressure next year and it was agreed that maintaining subscriptions at 2008 levels would allow members to benefit from membership during trying times.

The cost of this will be borne by the HTA who will be taking action to reduce operating costs.

The HTA outlined a number of other ways in which it will help its members. These include a one day conference on managing a business through recessionary times. This will take place on 5th March at The Hilton in Bromsgrove and will include issues such as cost reduction, smart buying, driving footfall and making the most of staff.

In addition there will be greater promotion of a number of member services which are particularly relevant to dealing with the recession.
