Nicklaus partnership first

Dedicated amateur lady golfer, Michelle Rhodes, with her new golf practice academy

The partnership signed recently between Southwest Greens and Nicklaus Design has yielded its first residential project in the UK with the completion of a home practice academy supplied and installed by Southwest Greens UK to Nicklaus Design’s .
Commissioned by dedicated amateur golfer, Michelle Rhodes, the entire facility was professionally installed at her home in Worcestershire, in less than a week.
The all-weather practice facility incorporates a 102 sq metre synthetic putting green with contoured fringe and semi-rough surround, a full-size bunker, a pair of short-iron chipping pods and a practice net utilising Ultimate tee turf, suitable for play both with and without a tee peg.
The site chosen by Mrs Rhodes for her new golf practice facility is adjacent to the house in an area previously occupied by a pond and sloping lawns. In addition to enabling quiet, undisturbed practice at any time of the day, the home garden location removes the need for her to drive 15 miles or more to a golf club or range to practise her shots. The result, she says, should bring continuing improvement to her game which has gone from beginner to 14 handicapper in a little over three years.
A key feature of the project is the marrying of the long-established golf course design expertise of the Nicklaus Design company with the technology employed in the development and production of Southwest Greens’ synthetic surfaces.
The partnership agreement signed between Southwest Greens and Nicklaus Design covers the design and installation of synthetic golf greens ranging from private home projects of 50 sq m to large commercial golf greens and putting greens comparable to those found on championship standard golf courses.
