Gnomes, it seems, are staging a comeback. Illicitly sneaking in to this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, despite being forever banned by the Royal Horticultural Society, it seems that no holds are barred in the gnome’s attempt to get back into the British garden.
Twigs Way, an academic and serious garden historian with a penchant for the quirky, discovered on a visit to the Museum of Gardens, that information on gnomes was highly sought after. She confessed ‘I get a mixed reaction when I tell people about the book – a lot of garden historians looked at me very oddly and then tried to change the subject. But other people, particularly gnome enthusiasts, of which there are many around the world, have been very excited.’
