Wacker Neuson’s new 2404 compact excavator
Wacker Neuson has extended its range in the 2.5 tonne class with a new 2404 tracked excavator
“The objective we had for this excavator was to develop a powerful, efficient and robust machine which also satisfied price-conscious customers and which could easily hold its own with machines in the 2.5 tonne class,” explains Gerhard Neudorfer, sales manager at Wacker Neuson Linz GmbH. “Our designers have more than achieved this objective and so we see massive potential for this new model.”
“A key characteristic of the 2404 is its stability, enhanced by its extremely broad and long running gear. The engine is in the tail section and the fuel and hydraulic tanks and hydraulic control block are beneath the cab, meaning that the weight distribution is extremely well balanced. The low centre of gravity provides the 2404 with excellent stability, even in difficult terrain, that is unique in this class and which facilitates smooth and controlled working”.
The 2404 is the newest member of the Vertical Digging System (VDS) family. This innovation from Wacker Neuson enables the continuously variable tilting of the superstructure through up to 15°. This makes it possible to compensate for inclines of up to 27% at the simple touch of a button, allowing the driver to work in his usual upright position. Comfort, utility and efficiency are considerably enhanced for the operator, whatever the task in hand. The use of VDS, available as an option, increases the machine’s stability on steeply sloping terrain by up to 20%. Using VDS, material and time savings of up to 25% can be achieved when excavating and back filling. This keeps expensive preparatory work to a minimum and significantly reduces both overall costs and man-hours.
