A grassroots cricket club has made a come-back to matchplay thanks to its new non-turf pitch, designed and supplied by Notts Sport Cricket.
Old Newton Cricket Club in Stowmarket, Suffolk, spent years without a proper facility, but the installation of the 30m Envelope System covered with NottsWeave artificial turf gives the club a pitch which replicates many of the best playing characteristics of a grass wicket.
And, thanks to careful work by Notts Sport Cricket’s Official Licensee, Bingham Ground Services, the grass outfield was also kept in tiptop condition and ready for action.
The teamwork of Notts Sport’s facility design and Bingham’s handiwork at the ground received glowing praise from Kevin Swinburne, Chairman of Old Newton Cricket Club. “I was worried about any residual damage to the field, so the fact that they dug the ground by hand, barrowed away the spoil and also carefully barrowed the gravel the full length of the field was fantastic.
“The finished pitch looks great – the guys did a fantastic job.”
The company offers a choice of ECB-approved artificial pitches – including the NottsBase D System and Envelope System, which can be designed and installed as matchplay or practice facilities – plus a range of portable training mats for indoor and outdoor use
Shaun Patrick, Chairman of Notts Sport, says: “Notts Sport is a big backer of the grassroots game, and so it was a real delight to design a new non-turf pitch for Old Newton Cricket Club, giving keen players the chance to get out in the field again after years without a proper facility.
“As always, our local approved installers, Bingham’s, did us proud and pulled out all the stops to deliver a first-class service”
