We in the country rely a good deal on the dog who is chained outside for a warning when there are night prowlers.
Occasionally during day time country people will move their dog kennels to within chains length of the yard gate or the back door especially on a road where the tramp steps or unusual sounds. He should be well fed in the forenoon and allowed to sleep. Early in the evening he should be given a run, and afterwards he should be shut up for the night. Should his feed be given late in the day he will sleep at night.
