Starting in 1907, Peter’s Eastwood grandfather rented a kitchen garden nursery from the Downs Hotel in Hassocks, before opening his open shop in the village, selling high quality fruit, vegetables and flowers. His peaches, grapes and nectarines were popular with consumers throughout London, a testament to the quality he achieved.
He then expanded into Brighton, buying a plant nursery with retail premises, enjoying roaring trade and repeat custom with local people who appreciated the care he and Peter’s father put into nurturing plants.
Peter opened the garden nursery in Hassocks in 1971, following the decision to sell the Brighton nursery so it could be redeveloped as a garden centre. He and his son, Adam, now run the business, supplying year round bedding plants, seasonal pot plants and garden bulbs to garden centres throughout South East England.
