Over 10,000 people all around England have improved their health thanks to open spaces owned by the Land Restoration Trust.
Special activities, such as Green Gyms or health walks, aimed at improving people’s health are run on all suitable Trust sites. The number of people who have taken part in such activities, has now passed the 10,000 mark.
Euan Hall, chief executive of the Trust remarks, “These activities are saving the NHS vast sums of money. It’s a very simple equation; activities, such as health walks and green gyms improve people’s health, which therefore reduces sickness and consequently the money spent curing sickness.”
Participating in an hour of some Green Gym activities can help burn off a third more calories than a step aerobic class. Research indicates that involvement in programmes like this is a great way of preventing health problems like coronary heart disease, diabetes, bowel cancer and obesity.
