The committee behind the Woking Show has announced that after 33 very successful years, this year’s show was the last.
The show was conceived by a group of Woking growers as a means of promoting their businesses. Current committee chairman Colin Edwards said: “Over the years the show has helped establish many of the businesses in and around the Woking area. It grew significantly in stature to the benefit of the horticultural industry as whole. It also provided a template for other shows.
“However it is an inescapable fact that trading methods have also changed and there are now many other ways for our members to actively promote themselves.”
Bob Mathias, one of the original growers behind the show and still an active committee member in 2011, commented: “The show has had a very useful life, way beyond any reasonable expectations we might have had 33 years ago. That in itself is a cause for celebration as we look forward to an exciting future in a very changing market place.”
