The Mayor and Mayoress of Allerdale, Joe and Dorothy Holliday, were on hand to assist ISS Facility Services Landscaping with the planting of the millionth bedding plant for Allerdale Borough Council. The Yellow Non-Stop Begonia, which will flower profusely from now until the first frosts, was planted at Ramsey Brow Planting Bed on the edge of Curwen Park in Workington, and can be seen as a metaphoric symbol of the longstanding partnership between ISS and Allerdale Borough Council.
ISS has been working in partnership with Allerdale Borough Council since 2003 as part of Allerdale’s Environmental Partnership – an innovative approach to delivering front line environmental services across the borough. The emphasis of the partnership centres on delivering service excellence focused on the needs of local communities. ISS’s contract is for fourteen years which encourages the service partners to build in long term efficiency savings.
ISS has been keeping the beds and borders of Allerdale awash with colour each year since the beginning of the contract. Summer bedding includes begonias, marigolds, impatiens and antirrhinums. This year, ISS has additionally planted out 200 summer baskets borough wide which overflow with surfinias, lobelia and petunias, to name but a few. The contract doesn’t end there as ISS also carry out arboriculture works, grass cutting, litter collection the marking out of sports
Alex Watson, Area Manager, ISS Facility Services Landscaping told The Landscaper ‘when we started adding up bedding plants figures, we were astounded that we had reached a million since our partnership with Allerdale Borough Council commenced, and were only too pleased when the Mayor and Mayoress of Allerdale agreed to help us commemorate this milestone by carrying out the millionth planting. Keeping Allerdale ‘blooming’ is just part of an improved grounds maintenance programme for the parks and open spaces of the Borough and delivers value to the whole community’.
