ePower Trucks, distributor of all-electric light commercial vehicles, has welcomed the announcement of a new £8,000 Government subsidy for electric vans.
Under the programme, announced by Transport Minister Norman Baker MP, the Government will provide a subsidy of up to 20% of the cost of all DfT-approved electric vans, to a maximum of £8,000. Previously the Plug-In grant scheme was only open to buyers of all-electric cars – and only stretched to £5,000.
Jerry Hanss, Managing Director of ePower Trucks, said: “This programme has the potential to really kick start the procurement of all-electric light commercial vehicles. We are already in talks with the Department for Transport to see which of our vehicles could qualify for the subsidy.
“The Government is backing electric vehicles as the future of road transport. They were already quiet, clean and energy efficient; now they will deliver significant cost savings to businesses as well.”
