A high-performance acoustic fencing and environmental noise barrier aims to reduce noise and enhance privacy using reflective or absorbtive materials,
The Sound Shield Pro line includes three barrier options to suit commercial projects, highways and residential developments needing noise reduction and utilises the company’s DuraPost steel fence posts and frames, made in cold rolled pre-galvanised or structural steel.
Weather resistant DuraPost is BRE tested to withstand wind speeds of up to 110 mph, providing consistent performance and backed by a guarantee of up to 25-years, Birkdale says. With patented H-section profile, “it has a superior strength-to-weight ratio in comparison with traditional fence posts”.
Independently tested and accredited by the Acoustic Research Centre at the University of Salford for proven sound reduction, the three barrier options are all compliant with BS EN 1793-2:2018.
• Traditional timber
In combination with a cellular adhesive EPDM acoustic rubber seal within the fence posts, the barrier is made from 70% PEFC certified 225 mm x 47 mm slow-grown redwood boards, with 85 mm x 35 mm twice-weathered capping of the same material. Traditional look and feel, achieving 27 dB sound rating.
• DuraPost Urban composite panels
Contemporary fencing that mimics the appearance of timber without the maintenance requirements and carrying 23 dB sound rating. Comes in natural, charcoal, sepia brown and light grey, with panels made from at least 70% recycled materials including a combination of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and rice husks. Designed to resist warping or degrading and do not require treating or painting.
• DuraPost Prima composite panels
Sleek and modular: made from 70% recycled PVCu boards, stacked using a tongue and groove connection to create a high strength panel, with 24 dB sound rating. Available in anthracite grey, olive grey, sepia brown and black with timber-look finish. Resists mould, rot and UV damage.
“While local noise regulations can vary by region or sector, all our products are designed to be installed in accordance with the local building regulations, ensuring your project easily meets the necessary compliance requirements,” Birkdale states.
