Royal Tour

The Princess Royal received a tour of the factory to see first hand how ‘green’ British manufacturers are leading the way in transforming the UK economy.
Princess Anne arrived at i-plas’s HQ in Halifax as part of a tour of the county and has a keen interest in environmental projects.
i-plas converts used-plastic into products which are direct replacements for concrete, steel and wood. The material, called i-plas, is being used by Network Rail to replace wooden sleepers, and is also moulded into Ezikerb, a recycled kerbstone. The company has a full range of other products, including decking, ground reinforcement blocks, roofing battens and tongue and groove profiles.
The firm was also shortlisted in the National Recycling Awards in the Best Recycled Product Category.
Howard Waghorn, Managing Director of i-plas, said, “The visit from Princess Anne is another piece of recognition for the world class product development we do here at i-plas. i-plas is helping to reduce the world’s reliance on carbon-releasing materials and is a versatile alternative to concrete, steel and wood for the construction industry. It is an honour to be receiving Princess Anne and we hope we can continue to follow our path of excellence so we can feature in Royal visits of the future.”
i-plas is made from 100% recycled mixed waste plastic. This is a considerable advantage, compared to tarmac, concrete and other solutions, where the CO2 expenditure is substantial.
