Turf 2013

The UK produces around 27,000 acres of turf every year. It’s an essential commodity for us all at times ..we look at the latest news in the turf world.
The Turfgrass Growers Association (TGA) has announced that Fineturf will host its 2013 Turf Show.
The biennial event will be held at the 135 acre turf farm run by Simon Hutton, at Carlton Scroop, Grantham, Lincolnshire, on Tuesday 9th July with a turf show dinner that evening at the nearby De Vere Belton Woods Hotel.
Focusing on all aspects of turf production, the show attracts growers from as far afield as Italy, Slovenia and Norway who visit to see demonstrations of the latest machinery and product innovations used in the growing and harvesting of quality cultivated turf.

Simon Hutton, Director of Fineturf, grew his first 2 acres of Turf in Grantham when he was just 15, which was harvested using a pedestrian Ryan Turf Cutter and sold locally. Two years later, following some early success, he invested in Hallmarket small and big roll harvesters and increased the turf production to 20 acres. His small, local turf operation was growing and deliveries of small and big roll were then expanded to nationwide coverage.

In 2012 the turf farm is still going strong and produces high quality, cultivated lawn and sports turf which is sold to sports grounds, landscapers, local authorities, property developers and domestic customers. This also further compliments Fineturf’s sports contract business. Custom grown rootzone based sports turf has been produced for a number of sports clubs and fibre reinforced turf tiles are regularly harvested for instant use when installed.

Furthermore, Fineturf are one of the country’s leading sports pitch contractors offering the design, construction, renovation, preparation and maintenance of natural and artificial surfaces.
Regular contracts are completed on Golf Courses, Football Pitches, Bowling Greens and Cricket Wickets for a client base that includes professional sports clubs, non-league clubs, local community clubs, local authorities, schools, academies and civil engineering contractors.
In March 2010 Fineturf were awarded UKAS accreditation for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and continue to hold this status. Health, Safety and Wellbeing are also paramount to the business and all employees hold CSCS Health & Safety Cards and CPCS Cards and all supervisors are IOSH Managing Safely trained.
Simon told The Landscaper, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to host next years Turfgrass Growers Show. We’ve supported the TGA throughout and hosted the show back in 2005. We’re looking forward to showcasing our great UK turf industry again in 2013. We welcome exhibitors and industry visitors old and new and promise that there’ll be something for everyone.”
