GIMA 2019 winners revealed

The winners of the 39th annual Garden Industry Manufacturer’s Association (GIMA) awards were announced at a glittering black-tie event at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, South Wales on July 4th, 2019. The pinnacle of the garden retail industry’s calendar, the event brought together manufacturers, retailers, members of the press and industry figures, to celebrate the 16 highly deserving winners.  

This year it is Primeur with its Tierra Verde Recycled Rubber Planters that walk away asthe proud winner of the GIMA Sword of Excellence,whilst Smart Garden Products has scooped the GCA Supplier of the Year. It’s a double whammy for Smart Garden Products however, as they were also awarded the Gardenex Export Achievement Award. Treadstone Products, Vitax, Westland, Hozelock, Gardena, E P Barrus, Chesneys Ltd, Farplants, Forest Garden, and RSW International Limited complete the winner’s roster in 2019.

GIMA Director, Vicky Nuttall, commentes: “I would like to be the first to extend my congratulations to all of the winners.  This year we have a really exciting and varied selection of winners, including some new and emerging brands, together showcasing the best innovation, products and services available to the garden retail market today.  It’s great to see so much variety, and I’m sure you will agree when I say that the calibre of winners has far exceeded expectations, with each highly deserving of their award.”

This year, the GIMA judging panel was made up of Andy Smith (Head of Buying at the Klondyke Group), Tammy Woodhouse (Managing Director at Millbrook Garden Company), Christopher Ray (B&Q’s Outdoor Category Manager), Adrienne Wild (Gardening Editor & Columnist, Sunday People and Woman’s Weekly), Sharon McNair (Commercial Director at Tong Garden Centre), Lucy Hall (Editor of BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine), Neil Pope (Editor of Garden Trade News), Stuart Whalley (Blue Diamond’s Head of Product Development), and Mary Bunting (QVC’s Home and Seasonal Buyer).

Vicky adds: “As always a huge thank you to all our judges for volunteering their time. Their input, keen eye and industry knowledge has helped to create a highly deserving list of winners, which was no mean feat when you consider the standard and breadth of products on offer.

“Finally, I’d like to extend my thanks to all those that have entered the awards in 2019, as well as all of our sponsors, without whom we would not be able to put on an event such as this.”
