Unique Olympic legacy

Chichester’s Weald and Downland Open Air Museum have benefited from a unique Olympic legacy that will protect rare native wildlife in West Sussex – a donation of wildflower turf used at the Olympic Stadium and featured in Danny Boyle’s ‘Green and Pleasant Land’ opening sequence this summer.
The donation was thanks to a new initiative between the Hampshire-based organisation, Wildflower Turf and the Sussex-based Meadows Nectar Networks Initiative.
The turf will provide a lasting legacy of the 2012 Olympics, helping to promote regional biodiversity and sustainability in West Sussex. The exciting initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of recreating ancient pastures and wildflower meadows as nectar-rich wildlife habitats, vital for supporting the UK’s regional wildlife.
