Turning Food Waste into Profit

In response to the popular demand for the event held last year at HotRot’s Brandon site in Norfolk, The Composting Association are organising a similar event to promote the further development of food waste treatment. As the push for achieving LATS targets comes ever closer, NOW is the time to find out what you need to be doing to maximise your diversion and take advantage of the many opportunities which exist within the East of England.

The day will be examining the recent Eunomia report which provides an insight into biowaste arisings in the East of England and how these can be best exploited. In addition, a detailed look at how you can select the most appropriate technology to match your input specification and what impact this has on both the operating and capital costs of the selected option. We will also be hearing from a Local Authority who has experience of operating a separate food waste collection scheme and overcoming all the barriers that this has presented along the way.

The afternoon will provide the opportunity for delegates to be involved in a number of interactive workshops including NISP, which will be operating a speed dating service between waste producers and processors. Renewables East will also be letting you know what assistance is available and there will also be the opportunity to see a small scale composter in action and a range of depackaging solutions the latter becoming an essential requirement if processors are to start taking in commercial food waste streams.

Following on from this, a visit to Greenview Composting in vessel facility at Lackford will be organised with transport provided. This site, as well as operating an ABP compliant process will be demonstrating their novel outdoor aeration system for the maturation stage of the composting process. This will prove to be an informative and stimulating day which will ensure that you are kept up to speed with all the key developments in this rapidly expanding sector.
