The CBI today commented on the government’s proposals for smart meters to be fitted in homes and businesses across the UK.
Dr Neil Bentley, CBI Director of Business Environment, said: “Enabling businesses and consumers to know exactly how much energy they are using with smart meters will encourage them to think about how they can reduce their energy use and cut bills. With 40% of the UK’s carbon emissions coming from buildings, smart metering will play an important role in reducing emissions.
Achieving all of this by 2020 is going to be a big job. It is important this consultation lays out a clear and cost-effective framework for rolling out smart metering so energy companies can get on with delivering this ambitious scheme.”
