No-maintenance

Material derived from recycled plastic and supplied by Filcris is in use by a Cambridgeshire-based disabled angling charity to build fishing platforms that are both safer to use and promise a much longer maintenance free life than alternative solutions.

The Manderson Trust is dedicated to provide free fishing facilities, with easy access, for disabled people in the area. The challenge it faced was to provide fishing platforms that were safe and easy to use for its members, some of whom fish from wheelchairs.

Alternatives had already been tried, wood was found to have a short life in the necessarily wet environment, paving slab platforms soon became uneven and difficult to use.

Filcris provided both the material, and a basic plan for the platforms, that have been constructed on site by Dave Few, one of the charity’s members.

Since the prototype was installed a further five have been added and another four are planned for the future.
