Students from Kingston Maurward College with their garden designs for CG Fry’s new build.
GARDEN design students from Kingston Maurward College are being encouraged to let their imaginations flower at a new housing development on the south coast.
The 13 students, studying the Advanced Certificate in Garden Design, have as their blank canvas a garden at Flax Mill near Bridport where they have been tasked to come up with inspirational ideas including a patio, water feature and lighting.
This is not the first time builder C.G Fry has approached the Dorchester land-based college for creative input at its developments – nearby Poundbury on land owned by the Duchy of Cornwall has also benefited.
Both the college and developer say the real life design experience is pivotal to the students’ learning.
“We have 13 students of all ages and backgrounds taking part in this exercise,” said Pauline Jones, horticulture lecturer at the college.
“Like the Poundbury assignment, it gives the students unparalleled professional experience and discipline which will give them the edge as they carve out their careers.”
