Fierce competition…….David Domoney

TV gardener David Domoney has put horticultural students from 8 UK colleges head to head in the first ‘Young Gardeners of the Year’ competition to be staged at The Ideal Home Show.
Each college will have just one week before the show opens on 11th March to create a garden haven from a reclaimed urban area using a 5’5 x 4 meter plot. Supported by Domoney Ltd. (David Domoney’s garden design company), the students must produce a space to inspire city dwellers, bringing a sense of tranquillity to the home owner and a touch of nature to the heart of the metropolis. “The emphasis is on sustainability,” says Domoney who has conceived and organised the event, “and I expect competition to be fierce.” At the end of the week the students will face a celebrity judging panel which includes a representative from the Prince’s Trust, and the winners will be unveiled.
“This is an exciting opportunity for young designers and landscapers as they embark on their career,” David Domoney declares. “It offers a chance for them to bring their innovative concepts to life and I believe it will showcase the new talent of the future.”
The colleges taking part are Shuttleworth College, Bedfordshire, Merrist Wood, Surrey, Askham Bryan College, North Yorkshire, Capel Manor College, Middlesex, Writtle College, Essex, Moulton College, Northamptonshire, Duchy College, Cornwall, and Chichester College, Sussex.

The Ideal Home Show which attracts around 250,000 visitors over its 17 day duration, runs at Earl’s Court from 11th – 27th March. All eight gardens will be on display throughout the show
