Decking Special

Tite-Fix offer the Deck-Tite range of screws, all approved and accredited with DeckMark by the Timber Decking Association.
For pressure treated (ACQ, Tanalith E) softwoods, they supply Deck-Tite , which is a screw designed to stay in place once driven in so the screw will not work loose over time. The screw also exhibits reduced timber damage on insertion and reduced insertion torque due to the Tri-Lok threadform. These screws are treated with Net-Coat , a treatment that not just protects against the elements but also protects against the chemical treatments in the timber.
If the application is in a predominantly wet or marine environment, they offer Deck-Tite Plus, which is based on the Tri-Lok threadform but manufactured in A4 stainless steel with a Net-Coat Clear coating that offers the ultimate corrosion protection.
For hardwoods they recommend Deck-Tite Plus – as per the TDA’s recommendation, they also recommend to pre-drill a pilot hole to accommodate post-installation timber movement.
For Composite deck they offer a range Deck-Tite Composite screws, which are manufactured in either Net-Coat treated hardened carbon steel or stainless steel. Composite timber has changed dramatically over the recent years and demands a very different fixing screw to when it was first introduced – that is why we keep changing our Composite screw design.
For landscaping (sleepers, heavy duty post, etc), they offer Timber-Tite, again coated in Net-Coat Green. These range from 80mm to 250mm in length so cover all the heavy duty fixing needs.

Kebony have taken years of research to develop a revolutionary technology of ‘Kebonization’ that permanently transforms sustainable wood species such as Maple and Southern Yellow Pine. The wood is treated with bio waste and heated; this polymerizes the cell structures permanently hardening the wood. The end product is Kebony wood – an award-winning sustainable substitute for tropical hardwood and traditional toxic wood protection.
Kebony has already delivered hundreds of national projects across Norway with support from environmental organizations like ’The Rainforest Association’ and is now expanding to international markets. Christian Jebsen, Kebony’s CEO comments, “Our exciting new wood materials are used with enthusiasm by architects around Europe. We strongly believe we have a solution for the future and are delighted to be exhibiting our new material at the world’s largest eco event for the building industry.”
The global market for rain forest timber is worth approximately $20 billion a year – a demand that cannot be met through sustainable means.
Kebony supplies materials for decking, wooden piers, cladding, boat decks and other construction materials.

Accoya wood formed part of the largest show garden ever at the 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The raised bed planters, a bench, compost bins and decking in the garden was made of Accoya wood, which combines outstanding durability and dimensional stability with the virtues of fast growing, sustainable wood. As a highly durable wood, Accoya will last at least 50 years above ground and 25 years in contact with or below ground.
Paul Clegg, CEO of Accsys, the company behind Accoya wood, told The Landscaper “We were delighted to be involved with creating such a spectacular show garden at the Chelsea Flower Show and delighted that it won a silver medal
“The carpentry skills and knowledge fostered by The Eden Project to construct the garden furniture and decking provide a great training opportunity to nurture talent and support employment prospects for all the individuals taking part. Accoya wood has many qualities but it is specifically its Class 1 durability that makes it suitable for use in decking”

A new brand of timber called PermaTimber has been launched and it comes with a guarantee of 15 years. Walford Timber of Herefordshire is a 60 year old family run business which has recently been accredited with ISO9001 status of international quality assurance.

The kiln drys out the timber to leave it with a moisture content of 28%, allowing the preservative to be absorbed much deeper into the product. Since the regulations regarding the use of arsenic and lead came into force, timber sold by Walford has come with a five year guarantee.

Managing Director and grandson of the founder, George Smith said: “The new brand allows us to support those with a need for a longer lasting product yet we will continue to offer our quality range of non-kiln dried timber. The PermaTimber range suitable for decking will consist of Scandanavian Pine because of it’s natural durability and suitability for treatment”.

Somerset-based wire rope company Tecni-Cable has announced the launch of a new concept DIY cable system for balustrading.

The product is designed for horizontal runs into wooden and metal posts and angled runs for stairways – with high polished marine grade stainless steel strand for the cable runs.

Managing Director, Trevor Heyworth says, “The fittings are already going down very well with members of the public and commercial installers alike – as they are small, compact, easy to install, and require no specialist tools or training to fit them. They are also reusable, which means that you can take them to your next balustrading project.”
