Staff from Cambridgeshire container tree nursery Barcham Trees have recently joined the Ely Seven-a-Side Soccer League and are now on the lookout for likely opponents for friendly matches. “We would be delighted to arrange football matches with other nurseries, horticultural companies and local authorities”, explained the team’s player-manager Lee Oakey.
The team’s season kicked off on Monday 4 March with a floodlit game against C.U.B. Energizers, which it lost 4-1. Barcham’s goalscorer from the penalty spot was Tom Wilson. “It was a good team effort, and we are sure to build on it. We have a wide age range, with Keith Sacre being our senior player”, said Lee.
