The garden, built by The Gardenmakers and designed by Sally Hopkinson, a garden designer from Stratford-upon-Avon, won the Association of Professional Landscapers Award for projects costing more than £50,000 and the coveted Supreme Winner accolade. It was selected from 56 projects submitted by landscaping companies from across the UK. The award was presented by the designer of last year’s winning garden, leading garden designer and television presenter Andy Sturgeon.
Chairman of the judges and vice chairman of the APL, Mark Gregory commented, “The attention to detail and the craftsmanship, especially with the riven York and its detailing, were a pleasure to see – clearly a company with good technical skills. The planting, design and maturity set this scheme off to its full potential…a superb scheme throughout and a pleasure to judge.”
Tim Mawle and David Sewell, directors of The Gardenmakers, said ‘We were delighted to pick up the award for the category we entered but to then win the overall award as well against some of the biggest and best-known names in the gardening profession was an unforgettable experience’. Designer Sally Hopkinson added ‘It was a very exciting project to be involved with and it is wonderful to see The Gardenmakers team, who were a real pleasure to work with from start to finish, get the recognition they deserve.’
