Well groomed

Taking artificial surface maintenance in-house has set a sports club on the road to savings which will help fund a new state-of-the-art pitch in the next five years. Watton Sports Club, in Norfolk, has invested in Redexim Verti-Top and Verti-Groom maintenance machines from Charterhouse Turf Machinery which will eliminate contract costs of £5000 per year, while offering an improved finish and longer life for the pitch.

Head groundsman Peter says: “We were able to agree a three-year finance package with dealer Ben Burgess for the Verti-Top and Verti-Groom which will cost a little over £5000 a year. In three years the machines will be ours and we will save £5000 a year which can be spent on other facilities at the club, including contributing to a new third or fourth generation pitch.”

The Verti-Groom has a rake and brush that lifts the pile of the artificial grass ‘carpet’ and brings the sand to the surface in two or three passes. It is then lifted off by the Verti-Top and deposited on a vibrating filter unit where debris is separated out to leave clean sand, which is placed back onto the surface and incorporated with a rear roller.
