Marshalls training

In readiness for the Governments’ decision on tackling the issues of a homes future surface water run-off Marshalls has been training its Register of Approved Landscape Contractors & Driveways Installer Members on the installation of its portfolio of permeable paving solutions.

The training comprises the reasons why Sustainable Urban Drainage solutions (SUDs) are so important; the thinking behind them; introduction to Marshalls’ portfolio of permeable paving and practical hands on installation sessions. A key area of the training is also the technical aspects of the installation centred round a site permeability soil test and the specified aggregates to be used.

Sean Myall, Marshalls Register Training Manager, who is leading the sessions says:

“We are now entering in to our eighth month in offering this training to our Membership. To date we have had over 130 Marshalls Register Installer businesses attend and pass the course, and as the deadline to the Government’s Future Water strategy nears, expected later this year, more and more requests are coming in everyday to attend.”

The rise in the interest in permeable paving was heightened in February with the publication of DEFRA’s Future Water – The Government’s Future Water Strategy for England. One of the key areas highlighted was the management of surface water run off due to its increasingly recognised contribution to flooding, stating that:

The Environment Agency estimated that up to two thirds of the floods in 2007 were caused by significant amounts of surface water overwhelming the drainage systems.
