Turf – the canvas of landscaping …. Chris Carr interview

Q Lawns hosted an open day to emphasise the scope of their business and the firms mission. The centre piece of the operation is 3,000 acres of the finest earth in the United Kindom, 50 per cent is used to produce the Q Lawns range and rest goes to Walkers Crisps and MacCain chips.
The Fens, also known as the Fenland(s), are a naturally marshy region in eastern England. Most of the fens were drained several centuries ago, resulting in a flat, damp, low-lying agricultural region.
Much of the Fenland originally consisted of fresh- or salt-water wetlands, which have been artificially drained and continue to be protected from floods by drainage banks and pumps. With the support of this drainage system, the Fenland has become a major arable agricultural region in Britain for grains and vegetables. The Fens are particularly fertile, containing around half of the grade 1 agricultural land in England.

In 1942 in order to grow the nations carrots and potatoes this area was drained again leaving the thick rich black earth that now produces some of the finest turf in the world.
Angela Lambert and Chris Carr the firms marketing managers explained that the Q Lawns mission has an overiding green agenda to increase the nations bio diversity and counteract the effect hard landscaping has on our islands wildlife.

As the name suggests, Enviromat Sedum Matting gains most of its low maintenance and environmental benefits from sedum plants.
Sedum mat typically adapts well to poor soil and exposed sites making it a great alternative to grass. Enviromat is also especially suited to the UK climate and incorporates all the growing medium that the sedum plants need – so it can be used on a soil-less surface, for example a sedum roof or sedum carpet.
Uses for Enviromat
