Bomber Command Memorial

Serco has been chosen by the RAF Benevolent Fund to look after the grounds maintenance and care of the RAF Bomber Command War Memorial which the Queen unveiled as part of the Jubilee celebrations.
The support contract began on 25 June as the construction of the Memorial was completed. Grounds maintenance, tree care, electrical and monument upkeep will all fall within the contract remit. Serco will manage a number of sub contractors to deliver the contract which will run for four years.
The Bomber Command Memorial commemorates the loss of 55,573 airmen who died in World War II and is a focal point for their relatives and also a fitting tribute to those who survived the campaign to whom we owe so much.
The memorial was designed by renowned sculptor Philip Jackson and architect Liam O’Connor as a lasting testament to the sacrifice of the men of Bomber Command. Funding for the Memorial has been made possible by public donations and by the support of philanthropists, John Caudwell, Lord Ashcroft and Richard Desmond.
Karen Smart, Partnership Director, Serco said, “ I am delighted that Serco is able to support the RAF Benevolent Fund and Bomber Command in caring for such an important Memorial that will be a lasting tribute for veterans and their families for years to come .”
