This month saw the official opening of Widemarsh Street in Hereford. Local natural stone specialist, Forest Pennant supplied over 1,500m2 of its Royal Forest Pennant sandstone paving to help complete the street enhancement scheme in time for the festive season.

Based in the Royal Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, Forest Pennant was appointed as a natural stone supplier for the regeneration of Widemarsh Street, in the city centre, following the specification of its paving materials by the client, Herefordshire Council.

The Pennant sandstone was selected due to the locality and indigenous qualities of the stone, making it a naturally complementary material for the existing and historic city centre buildings. Local product sourcing also contributes to a reduced carbon footprint.

Nick Horton, managing director of Forest Pennant told The Landscaper “We have delivered a hard-wearing and durable paving system that will not only stand the test of time and the footfall of millions of shoppers and tourists, but one that also benefits and complements the town centre environment. Being a locally produced product we can also aid the council in it’s bid to reduce the county’s carbon footprint and emissions.”
